September influences

We went to the Alphabets Alive exhibition at the Bodleian in Oxford. It was a rainy day with lots of students graduating with their parents in attendance.

The exhibition was small but had lots of examples of hand made books using the alphabet and included a page of the wood block prints made by Enid Marx.

I used her letter S design in this mini quilt and drew further inspiration from Edward Bawden for the drawing of the Staffordshire china dog. Four similar china dogs occupy corners in our house so it feels like they are never far away.
