Quick and easy. Why sewing is the tops.

Just thought I’d belatedly share my love for this fool-proof New Look pattern (New Look 6022). It’s a dress pattern but you can easily turn it into a top by shortening the length. So far I have only used it to make tops.

It’s very quick to cut out and the instructions are easy to follow. It would be good for beginners because there are no zips or button holes. You can make it even quicker by cutting the back in one piece, rather than two separate pieces.Doing that would eliminate most of the hand sewing involved.

I’ve made five versions so far. The first two were in silky fabrics, the next two were cotton and the fifth was a sleeveless version in a crepe back satin.

For me, it works really well as a smart alternative to a T shirt and making it in different fabrics makes it extremely versatile.

I have to say that this straightforward, easy-to-sew pattern is what makes home dressmaking such a pleasurable and useful activity. From very little fabric you can make yourself something unique that works for both casual and dressy occasions.ImageImage
